Part 2 of the Green Material Spotlight is where I feature lessons from my fellow art-teaching bloggers (plus a couple of my own.) Here are some great art lessons using CARDBOARD! I have come across so many wonderful art units involving cardboard in the past! I couldn't find every one that I remembered. If you have or know of another great lesson, please leave a link in the comments! If I get together enough, I will do another post like this!

The 4 R's!!!

Reduce - use less of something

We can reduce the waste of materials like paper towels and water in the art room by not using as much!

Reuse - use something again

We can reuse items like sponges over and over to clean up in the art room instead of cleaning with paper towels, which can only be used once!

Repurpose - use something again, but with a new purpose

We can repurpose all kinds of materials to use for art-making - like using an egg cartons as a paint pallet or bottle caps to make eyes on an animal!

Recycle - use trash to make something new

We can recycle some items we no longer need, like plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass jars, paper and cardboard!

Green Materials

This is list of items we collected and used to create art in our classroom last year. These materials had already served their original purpose and were going to be discarded. All items had to be rinsed of any food or detergent particles in order to be used in the classroom! (Materials listed in blue were used the most!)

-Cardboard Tubes

-Thick and Thin Cardboard Boxes

-Egg Cartons, especially Styrofoam

-Packing Peanuts

-Tape Rolls

-Glue Nozzles

-Marker and Pen Caps

-Plastic Containers of all sizes

-Netting

-Fruit Cartons

-Thread Spools

-Ribbon and Yarn Scraps

-Fabric Scraps

-Corks

-Buttons

-Old Toys, Computer Parts, Odds and Ends

-Magazines, Phone Books

-Postcards, Greeting Cards

-Paper Scraps

-etc.

I LOVE these Mrs. G! Cardboard is one of my favorite materials to work with. It's free, it's sturdy, and good for the environment! Thanks for sharing these!
